Because Portuguese hospitality means: the door is always open, there\u2019s plenty of food, and no one goes home hungry or without a good conversation. It follows the principle that you give people something by taking time for them. What is more precious than our time?<\/p><p>\n\n<\/p><p>For the longest time, I didn\u2019t create, design, or tinker. Not because I didn\u2019t want to. But I had this wrong notion that I wasn\u2019t allowed to. The thought that my creations had to measure up to others\u2019 standards and their definition of perfection immediately made any emerging idea disappear. I often rushed myself, compared myself to others, and put myself under pressure - all for things that were actually supposed to bring me joy. I had completely forgotten how much joy lies in the process itself. In the creative process, not in the result.<\/p><p>\n\n<\/p><p>\u201eThe most personal is the most creative.\u201c A quote that helped clear those limiting thoughts in my mind. If it brings me joy, fulfills me, and gives me strength, it will inspire others as well. \n\n<\/p><p>Whenever I\u2019d gotten myself into a mess, lost track of things, and started to feel desperate and frustrated, my father would always just say, \u201cCalma Miuda.\u201d \u201cCalm down, my little girl.\u201d He\u2019s no longer here to say it. In order to never forget it, I chose it as my brand name.<\/p> \n\n<p>Calma Miuda was born out of all of this: Perfection is not a standard. It is merely an ideal that someone else has imposed on us. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and most of the time you only realize how beautiful something is when you stop comparing it to something else. Calma Miuda is the Portuguese hospitality I know from home. Calma Miuda is the courage to share something that is personal.<\/p>\n\n<p>You won't find a guide to perfection here. You'll find ways to trust your own instincts while designing, decorating, creating, or hosting.
